This evening, I’ve been given the opportunity to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing: interviewing an actor I admire greatly.
After publishing my Margo Martindale In Character piece,
Martindale’s publicist contacted me to thank me for drawing attention to her
client. The publicist and I got to talking and it turns out I’ve covered a
number of her clients (including Christopher McDonald) through In Character.
Who knew?
And now, after several fruitful discussions, I’m traveling
to New York City to interview Christopher McDonald on Broadway, where he is
currently featured in the Tom Hanks-starring, Nora Ephron-penned Lucky Guy. Needless to say, I am thrilled for this opportunity, and I wanted to check with you, my lovely readers:
anything you’d like me to ask Christopher McDonald?
Congrats, Alex! I'm really just curious about the career of a character actor who appears in so many roles. A lot of them are small, so it has to be an interesting life to have such a diverse body of work. I'm guessing you're already on this topic, and I'm sure it will be an interesting discussion.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan! I definitely asked him all about that. He even broke down his typical day for me. Fascinating stuff.
DeleteWow, man. This is great stuff. This is a really stupid question, but I wonder how he feels about playing Shooter McGavin. It's likely equal parts curse and blessing.
ReplyDeleteOoh I definitely asked him about that. It'll be in my write up ;)
DeleteThis is incredible! Congratulations! Ask him if he eats pieces of shit for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteSorry I had to get a Happy Gilmore reference in there. Ask him about Requiem for a Dream! Does he enjoy comedic acting or dramatic acting more?
Congrats again! This is so cool.
Thanks dude! We talked a lot about fusing comedy and drama into his roles. He spoke so eloquently about it.
DeleteThat is awesome!!!! Ask him about working with the likes of Jim Jarmsuch and the Coen Brothers. Plus, I heard good things about that play he's doing.
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun. I got to see the play he's in before I interviewed him. Great stuff. We talked a lot about it, and I definitely snuck in a bit about the Coen's too.
DeleteBig congrats man! Good luck, and have fun. Can't wait to read the interview!
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy!
DeleteHe's awesome! This is amazing! I guess I'd want to know about working with Rodriguez and Aronofsky. The Faculty and Requiem for a Dream are two of my favourite roles from him and two interesting directors. He's worked with a lot of greats. I wonder who his faves are!
ReplyDeleteHe has worked with so many legends. which is awesome.. We talked about that a bit, although I regrettably didn't touch on The Faculty. I LOVE that movie.
DeleteI really need to know what it was like working with Norm MacDonald.
ReplyDeleteHa, sadly I glossed over that topic. Next time.
DeleteDevastating.
DeleteWow, that is so cool, man! Really happy to see all your hard work is paying off -- can't wait to read the interview!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric! Interview was a total blast.
