Six Degrees of Separation Blogathon

Nostra, the uncontested master of blogathons, has created another great one, this time tasking bloggers with connecting film artists in six steps or less. The rules, in Nostra’s words: You will get two names of either actors/actresses/directors or movies and what you will have to do is make a link between them in a maximum of six steps.

Sati from the great Cinematic Corner was kind enough to pass things on to me, with the challenge of connecting director Michael Haneke with actor Stephen Dillane. I’m not as familiar with Dillane’s work as Sati (is anyone…?) but here’s what I came up with.

1. Michael Haneke made Funny Games with Michael Pitt

2. Michael Pitt was in Silk with Keira Knightly

3. Keira Knightly was in King Arthur with Stephen Dillane

Boom.

It’s difficult to determine who’s had a stab at this blogathon so far, but I’ll pass it over to Steven from Surrender to the Void. I challenge Steven to connect Stephen Dillane to Ingmar Bergman. Have at it!

  1. 1) Stephen Dillane was in "The Hours" with Nicole Kidman
    2) Nicole Kidman worked with Tom Cruise in "Eyes wide shut"
    3) Tom Cruise was with Colin Farrell in "Minority report"
    4) Colin Farrell worked with Liv Ullmann in the upcoming "Miss Julie"
    5) Liv Ullmann worked in "Persona" with Ingmar Bergman

    How about that?

    1. Jesus man, I swear, sometimes I think we're the same person. That is the EXACT same connection I made for Dillane and Bergman as well. Hopefully the Void can come up with another one!

    2. Haha, that's really fun man. I guess we're really connected. Haha! But that game... Hell, it's so much fun! I puzzled to make connections like that when I was a kid constantly.

    3. Me too! I really do think you can make any connection in at least 6 steps. The fun part is seeing how few steps you can make it.

  2. Cool idea and so much fun! I thought of taking a step further and connecting Ingmar Bergman with Jennifer Lawrence (!) would be super hard, but I've done it in three steps surprisingly:

    1) Ingmar Bergman worked with Max Von Sydow in "The seventh seal"
    2) Max Von Sydow worked with Robert DeNiro in "Awakenings"
    3) Robert DeNiro worked with Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook"

It's a really fun and challenging game though. I used to play that game with my father when I was a kid. We had the maximum of ten steps though. Great idea, love it!

  4. YEY! And King Arthur is such an interesting choice - the film is so-so but you watch it and all those familiar faces keep showing up. Nicely done!

  6. Very cool connection. And is it me, or does that pic of Dillane look like Hugh Jackman in Les Mis? (with more hair, obviously)

    1. Thanks man. Yeah he does have a Jackman vibe to him there. Doesn't even really look like Dillane.

  9. Nicely played Alex! Michael Pitt was so good/creepy in Funny Games. In some weird way that performance reminded me of Anthony Perkins in Psycho.

    1. Thanks man! I really dig that comparison, actually. There's an absence of guilt and shame in both of them that is so damn haunting.
