The concept here is simple: I discuss my favorite scene from one of my favorite films.
In film, I find myself attracted to emotional expression (the face, the eyes, the gesture) more so than an exaggerated monologue or an inflated action sequence. My preference for emotional expression is a common theme among this series. Enjoy.
Hey man... really digging this blog. I stumbled across it somehow when I was reading about my man Al Pacino. Loved your favorite scenes section. Especially The Godfather and The Godfather II write-ups. But thought it was also really cool that you sent some love to the underappreciated Insomnia and 8 Mile scenes as well.
As far as the badass scenes go, I've actually made that list before myself. And while I agree with a lot of your selections, I'd say the following few are musts:
1. Tombstone - "I'm Your Huckleberry" 2. Good Will Hunting - Harvard bar scene 3. The Godfather - "You straightened my brother out?"
Wow man, first off, thanks so much for stopping by, reading, and leaving such a kind comment. Made my day.
So glad you dig the blog and this series. Those badass scenes you pointed out are just that: badass. That scene from Good Will Hunting is one of my all-time favorites, and that Godfather moment is just... you have no idea what he's going to do. So intense.
Thanks again for stopping by, I'd love to read your badass scenes list if you want to link it here!
You're very welcome, bud. I just happened to find your blog and then spent a better part of two hours reading it. Also dug your write-ups on Compliance, a movie I just watched last night and have been thinking about ever since.
Glad you like my badass scene choices. No love for the Tombstone scene though? I ask cause it's always the first one I think of-- Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo facing off, and Doc's just total badassness throughout the scene.
I'll definitely post my badass scenes to my blog sometime soon. I started a blog a year or so ago, then I got a job writing entertainment/sports stories for my local paper and have slacked off. You can check it out, though. I will be updating soon, but I think you'd dig my Top 20 Movie Franchises write-ups: www.grabbagok.com
Oh definitely didn't mean to slight Tombstone - I love the hell out of that scene. Kilmer really killed it in that role. I love what he did there. And Michael Biehn is just a nut. Love that guy.
Really glad you liked my Compliance review, thanks for checking it out. Rewatched that a few days ago and wow. Shit creeps up and stays.
I was cruising your site a lot yesterday. Really dig it. And hey, I fully understand investing more in "real life" jobs than the blog. Gotta pay those bills! Will look for your franchise post ASAP.
8 mile was on TV tonight and after watching the final battle scene, I googled "8 mile best movie scenes of all time" and boom! There was your blog. Thanks for the read, I enjoyed your other scene reviews as well.
umm without you i wouldn't have watched half of these movies, so 1. thanks for that and 2. thanks for this. MUAH I hope L.A. is treating you the way it should. Love you!
Loved your favourite scenes! @sleepers, raging bull, fargo. No ROCKY?!! definately deserves a spot!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, glad you enjoy them! Rocky, huh? Ask and you shall receive.
DeleteYou missed a biggie. Rutger Hauer's scene in Blade Runner where he's rescued Harrison Ford and is dying.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your selections.
Oh that's a great scene right there. The whole "Father"/"Fuck You" bit. Good call! Thanks so much for reading.

ReplyDeleteAww thanks Lex! I wish we could watch more flicks together... those were the days. Miss and love you too!
DeleteGreat Blog. Love your posts and hope you continue posting more interesting stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Really appreciate you stopping by!
DeleteWhich is the worst scene from a great film (one of your favorite, or at least an A+ film), in your opinion.
ReplyDeleteThe scene in The Godfather where Sonny beats up Carlo is awful. One of the most unconvincing fight scenes I've seen in any movie.
DeleteStar Wars The Force Awakens, when Han and Lea meet again. Tears streaming down my face!!:-) Ina
ReplyDeleteOhhh that's a great scene for sure.
